The motif for this year’s Annual Collectible Plate depicts a flock of sheep walking through a Danish forest. The shepherd carries a tired lamb in his arms, as he stops to admire an old viking monument. The motif is created by a long time collaborater of Royal Copenhagen, sculptor Allan Therkelsen. The Three Waves proposed as The Royal Danish Porcelain Factory trademark in 1775 by Queen dowager Juliane Marie, every piece of Royal Copenhagen porcelain is instantly recognised by the three blue waves on its underside symbolising the Sound, the Great Belt and the Little Belt - the three main waterways of Denmark.
